Three measuring instruments in one

With Mobile-CASSY 2 you can make direct measurements – without needing a PC. Apart from using the module as a stand-alone instrument, measurements can also be carried out using a PC via the built-in USB port. The school licence for the CASS Lab 2 measurement software allows it to be used on the class's own computers. Of course, it can also be used for demonstrations. The WiFi option also makes it possible to make measurements using tablet computers. For this LEYBOLD offers the CASSY app, which is free to both teachers and students. This three-in-one flexibility enables you to adapt your lesson preparations to what you need in your own school.

Ideal for students, CASSY Lab 2 is impressive for allowing rapid set-up of experiments, for its intuitive operation, high-speed measurement data recording, graphic capability and the fact that measurement results can be saved.

Intuitive and featuring large measurement display

Mobile-CASSY 2 is perfectly designed for operation by students. Its support base allows it to be set up as part of a student experiment where everyone can see it clearly. The students can also operate the measuring instrument quite intuitively. The well thought-out design with its modern look and feel relies on simple operation by means of a touch wheel. The key part of the control system is familiar to all students. The touch wheel allows the students to quickly find the right screen view and navigate through the menus. The large 9-cm graphic display makes Mobile-CASSY 2 highly suitable for groups of students as well. This is not obscured by the touch wheel operation so that all the students can follow what is happening on the screen. Also, Mobile-CASSY 2 is not sensitive to rough handling.

Automatic sensor detection as well as many variables already built in

Measurements of voltage, current, power, energy and temperature can be made directly without the need for any accessories. 4-mm safety sockets and a type-K socket for the supplied NiCr-Ni temperature sensor are already incorporated. Mobile-CASSY 2 is compatible with all CASSY S and M sensors. Thanks to the more than 50 sensors available, the broadest range of applications becomes possible – for instance measurement of conductivity, pH, pressure, force or even the frequency of the human heartbeat. Once a student connects the sensor to Mobile-CASSY 2, the student's measuring instrument immediately detects that sensor and automatically selects appropriate measuring ranges. No more key presses are required and no time is required for booting up. This means that students can start their experiments sooner.

Experiment instructions specially designed for Mobile-CASSY 2 (pre-prepared; option of making your own)

We have included compact instructions in our digital library specifically for student experiments. They can simply be uploaded to Mobile-CASSY 2. Instructions are simply installed from a USB stick and automatically loaded when the equipment is switched on. The step-by-step instructions are shown on the display and guide the students through setting up the experiments. The sample experiments always include the appropriate configurations as well. Moreover, you can create your own experiment instructions quickly and easily using the Mobile Edit program. These can be saved and managed in our Document Center.

The Document Center software and the "Mobile-CASSY 2 experiment examples" package can be downloaded for free: Document Center.

Rapid recording of measurements

Thanks to the automatic sensor detection and automated selection of measuring instruments, students can start making their own measurements more quickly. It is possible to load preliminary settings from pre-defined LEYBOLD sample experiments or also to configure the settings oneself. Measurement parameters such as duration of measurement, measurement interval or triggers and pre-triggers can also be set up. In addition, settings such as measuring ranges and calibration can also be defined for the variables in question. Then all the students have to do is to start and stop. Measurement values are immediately copied to the equipment and can be traced graphically. Mobile-CASSY 2 also has the impressive capability to record up to 100,000 values per second.

Graphic capability for high-contrast diagrams

The high-contrast display and graphic capabilities of Mobile-CASSY 2 enable first-class handling. The colour display also includes backlighting. Students can see everything clearly and, thanks to the dynamic depiction of graphs, they can get an immediate insight into the measurements. Simple and self-explanatory icons are used to select measurement channels and display them. Mobile-CASSY 2 automatically shows the possible variables to be measured based on the specific sensors. Further icons can be used to select the configuration menu and other views by means of the touch wheel. Some of the options include language, WiFi mode and brightness. Apart from the graph view, there is also a table, a large measurement value display and a summary of all the variables being measured. Configuration of the axes for the measurement graph is also freely selectable. In addition, analytical functions can also be carried out such as fitting straight lines and parabolas. For example, in the “free fall” experiment, it is possible to calculate the acceleration due to gravity at your location on the earth's surface.

Measurements can be saved for later analysis

The measurement values obtained can be saved to the built-in micro-SD card. The values saved on the SD card can simply be copied by connecting Mobile-CASSY 2 to a computer. Recording and saving to a USB stick can also be employed for subsequent analysis on a PC. Of course, the measurement values can be reloaded onto any component of the CASSY system to be used again. The measurement software CASSY Lab 2 running on a PC or laptop or the CASSY app both come into this category.

More information about the CASSY App can be found: HERE.

WiFi option – Gateway to digital teaching

Mobile-CASSY 2 is also available in a version with a WiFi option. This means it can connect wirelessly to a computer or tablet in a Wifi network. Alternatively it can set up its own WiFi network. This makes it possible to experiment with tablet computers via the CASSY app.

Step into nature - Experimenting outdoors

Mobile-CASSY 2 is portable and also ideal for use outside classrooms. We have developed the practical backpack for environmental analysis especially for the purpose. This carries the Mobile-CASSY 2 device in a sensible and safe way along with additional sensors for ecological measurements. This means that students can measure temperature and turbidity of watercourses directly or find the temperature or pH of soil as well as relative humidity, air pressure and light intensity. This allows students to actively experience theory in action in nature itself. The measurements obtained can be read directly from Mobile-CASSY 2 and stored for later analyses.

We offer various models of the backpack for environmental analysis – from a starter package to a full set:

Simple to charge

The high-quality rechargeable battery provides a long-life charge either in constant operation (about 8 hours) or in stand-by mode (several years). A battery indicator shows the charging status of the battery at all times. A charger is included in the scope of delivery. In order to charge multiple devices simultaneously, we also offer a charging adapter with which 4 Mobile-CASSY 2 devices can be charged at once.
