UNIVERSAL MEASURING INSTRUMENTS for physics, chemistry and biology

Large display, ideal for measurements without a computer

The universal measuring instruments are compact devices for demonstration lessons. They are particularly suitable for use when measurements are to be made without the aid of computers. Large groups of students can easily read the measurements from the large display, even from a long way away. The 7-segment display stands out for its high contrast.

Versatile and flexible measurements

The universal measuring instruments allow the measurement of many different variables. Simply connect one of the many CASSY S sensors. This enables you to have the right instrument for measuring temperature, pressure or even the time it takes light to cover a distance. The universal measuring instruments automatically detect any sensor which is connected to them. Immediately, the large, bright, digital display will show the corresponding variable. The neat design and automatic detection of sensors make the equipment easy to handle and operate. You can also select measuring ranges manually.

As another option, you can also connect the universal measuring instruments to a computer via an USB cable. That means you can easily use the CASSY Lab 2 measurement software for graphical measurements or analysis of results.

We provide detailed instructions for experiments using the universal measuring instruments.

Universal measuring instrument physics

For measuring the following variables:
Force, velocity, acceleration, angle of rotation, pressure, temperature, voltage, current, electric filed strength, magnetic field strength, momentum and count rates.

Special feature: An audible signal is sounded for count rate measurements.

Universal measuring instrument chemistry

For measuring the following variables:
pH, illuminance, oxygen, carbon dioxide, pressure, conductivity, temperature, current, voltage, ambient conditions and photometric measurements in liquids.

Special feature: Calibrations for pH, conductivity and concentrations of oxygen and carbon dioxide are saved internally and only need to be checked occasionally. The universal measuring instrument also has an additional input for a type-K temperature sensor.

Universal measuring instrument biology

For measuring the following variables:
Blood pressure, ECGs and EMGs, reaction times, skin resistance, pulse rates, hearing threshold, temperature, illuminance, oxygen, ambient conditions, current, voltage, pressure, pH and carbon dioxide.

Special feature: A speaker is incorporated for measuring thresholds of hearing or for outputting sound when measuring pulse rates. The universal measuring instrument also saves calibration data.
