Evolution instead of revolution
That is the motto of the new CAN FD databus

The focus here was not on integrating a completely new data bus system, but on expanding and improving the already existing proven system.

In the process, the data transmission speed and the volume of data in a message were significantly increased. "FD" stands for "flexible data rate" and means that during a message transmission, the speed of data transmission in the data field can be increased up to 8 MBps. The volume of data can also be increased from previously 8 bytes to 64 bytes.

As a result, a longer message is transmitted faster with CAN bus FD than a significantly shorter message with the standard motor CAN bus.

This is especially beneficial for the flash duration for controllers. Vehicle software updates can now be carried out considerably faster than before.

LEYBOLD offers a CAN FD device set with which CAN FD messages can be freely defined and transmitted. These can be recorded on the logic level on the PC and on the physical level with an oscilloscope. Of course standard CAN messages can also be produced and transmitted for comparison.

Controllable loads

To display consumers such as households or factories, the controllable ohmic, capacitive and inductive loads can be used in the experimental panel. They are also well suited for teaching the basics of power electronics and energy technology.

The robust three-phase loads have a power consumption of up to 1 kW or 1 kvar. The load level of each phase can be set independently in 16 steps. This means that asymmetrical loads in the three-phase network can also be investigated. The level and status display of the load is done via coloured LED strips on the front.

Phase-symmetrical remote contol of the loads is easy in combination with the Power Analyser CASSY Plus.

Load scenarios, e.g. running the standard load profile H0 of a household, are realised via the LabView support of the Power Analyser CASSY Plus. With the analogue control input, the loads can also be used universally, e.g. in control engineering.

Product highlights:

  • Universal three-phase loads
  • Remote-controllable with e.g. Power Analyser CASSY Plus
  • Asymmetrical loads can be switched on by a trigger
  • Running a load scenario for generator and smart grid experiments
